Marines Helping Marines Up Date:
On Wednesday December 22 we had Santa Clause (Tony Begenwald) join us on
our weekly visit to Bethesda Naval Hospital. Santa assisted us in
presenting each wounded Marine with a Marine Corps League wrist watch for
Christmas. We also had a present for each parent and other family members.
We also presented each family with a goodie bag containing cookies, candy
and other holiday treats (see our "Meet
the Wounded Marines" page for photos of this event). Two weeks before Christmas we donated two
completely decorated (artificial) Christmas trees, twelve poinsettia
plants, assorted red ribbons and decorations to the hospital to make it
feel more festive.
I would like to give a special thank you to my wife Darlene Short, Guy
Hall, Tom McKnight, Kevin Oliver and Tom Maiorana for giving up their
Christmas Day to spend time at Bethesda Naval Hospital serving a ham and
turkey dinner with all the trimmings. They provided a complete sit down
dinner for the wounded Marines, their families and the hospital staff. New
Year day we will again be supplying the Marines and their families with a
another sit down dinner
I would also like to express my appreciation to LtGen. Robert Magnus
(pentagon) and his wife Rose, Col. Frank (Marine OIC at Bethesda) and
Capt. Baker (Quantico) for not only attending this Christmas dinner but
jumping in with both feet and helping to serve and assist the wounded
Marines and their family.
I would like to thank everyone who has donated and is continuing to donate
to the Marines Helping Marines program. Without your generosity none of
this would have been possible.
Semper Fi,
Ron Short
